Waxes have clearly defined functions in coating and ink formulations. They impart a degree of water resistance to the film. The addition of wax also improves the rubbing/scuffing resistance. Special distilled synthetic waxes have been developed for TTR (Thermal Transfer Ribbon) and have a heat conductivity in a narrow melting peak.
