Solution: Renewable Carbon

As mentioned in our previous blog, humans release an extra amount of carbon and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere causing ecological, physical, health impacts, extreme weather conditions and a rise in sea-level. This results in a pressure on the chemical industry to become more sustainable by reducing fossil energy, improving resource efficiency and decreasing raw material consumption. Furthermore, we are convinced that the solution to these challenges in the chemical industry is renewable carbon.

Why renewable carbon?

Definition of renewable Carbon entails all carbon sources that avoid or substitute the use of any additional fossil carbon from the geosphere. Renewable carbon can come from the atmosphere, biosphere or technosphere– but not from the geosphere. Renewable carbon circulates between the atmosphere, biosphere and technosphere, creating a carbon circular economy.

Sources of renewable carbon

There are three different sources of renewable carbon. Firstly, mechanical and chemical recycling to give products a new life. Secondly, the utilisation of biomass as a resource with the direct utilisation of CO2 from waste gases of fossil and cement industries. The last source is biogenous sources such as biogas and the air.
