Challenges with EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)

Geschrieben von Paul Hendriks An 23 November 2020Lesezeit: 1 Minute

As many people know, EVA is thermoplastic polymers consisting of repeated units of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The product distinguishes itself by its excellent processability, flexibility and compatibility. For example, it is used for wheels of baby carriages, toys, bags, soles for sports shoes and in asphalt to reinforce bitumen.

Negative properties of EVA

Unfortunately, more and more companies are experiencing the negative aspects of EVA. Even though EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) is known as a wear-resistant plastic, if the thermal load during processing is too high, corrosive degradation products are released.

Besides, sustainability is beginning to play an important role, especially plastic recycling. However, the disadvantage of EVA is that it is more difficult to recycle which will affect the environment.
